Interview with 2025 Youth Ambassador, Jasmin Safadi

The PSpace Youth Ambassadors program invites a group of NSW- based emerging artists aged 18 to 25 to engage with the organisation’s rich history and cutting-edge experimental work across Australia and the Asia-Pacific. We spoke with 2025 Ambassador, Jasmin Safadi about her experiences.

Tell us a little about yourself

I am Jasmin Safadi, a Viennese and Jawlani Syrian artist, choreographer, and creative living on Gadigal Land. My wish is to create deep impact and timeless works that inspire and incentivise thought, dreams, and change. Forever an advocate for justice to all oppressed and freedom for all.

Why did you apply for the Space Youth Ambassador Program?

I believe you have to go beyond what you know, and being a part of a new community as well as being exposed to artists and creations you might otherwise have missed is one of the first steps one could take.

"Liveworks was magical to me. The program made me continue to want to expand, cross boundaries, and think bigger."

- Jasmin Safadi

What did you enjoy most from being a Youth Ambassador? Was there a particular performance you saw by PSpace that inspired or challenged you?

What I enjoyed most from being a Youth Ambassador was meeting inspiring artists that are in a similar chapter as me in life, the opportunity to witness extraordinary art and to always know that there is a space for you, both in the community and the arts world.

All performances were profound and lived along their own range, but Liveworks was magical to me. The sheerness of being able to exit and enter a space, experience the multiculturalism, shared struggles and how we can create hopeful and forward-moving art because of it. The program made me continue to want to expand, cross boundaries, and think bigger.

How would you describe Performance Space to a peer/friend/colleague?

It is not only experimental and passionate, but one of the safest spaces I have seen, welcoming to all, in the truest sense of the word. It cultivates relationships and collaborations. For me that is the breeding ground of any project, experience, organisation and community one could participate in.

Any advice to someone thinking of applying for the program?

I cannot emphasise enough how significant it is, to contribute to this program yourself. By that I say, bring your criticism, notes, open mind, (self-)reflection, visions, and courage to connect with others. In anything you do, make sure you are an active part of it. This is how you grow and move forward.
