Interview with 2025 Intern, Akriti Banerjee

PSpace are proud supporters of UNSW's Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture work integrated learning opportunities. During Liveworks, Akriti Banerjee joined our team as Marketing Intern. She shares her experiences.

Tell us a little about yourself

I’m Akriti. I’m an international student halfway through my Masters at UNSW. I’m a dancer and have been one with the stage for over two decades. My favourite thing about Marketing is being able to communicate the extensive behind-the-scenes hard work into extraordinary moments that seem effortless. Much like a dancer!

Why did you apply for an internship with PSpace?

Growing up, directly or indirectly, voluntarily and involuntarily I’ve always been connected to art and those who nurture and celebrate it. When I came across the internship with PSpace, it was an embodiment of this. From the very first go, Liveworks enraptured me. The idea, the ambition, the goal. To be a part of something that lasts for a week but stays with you for a lifetime.

"I think I got really lucky with PSpace, especially as my first internship in Australia. They have set the bar really high. Be it in terms of teamwork, workplace environment, professionalism, business ambition and mostly as an art organisation."

- Akriti Banerjee

What did you enjoy most about your internship?

I would have to say two things. First, being a part of a community that constantly recognises meaningful work and the artists who do it and continues to create a supportive space for them. Second, I couldn’t have asked for a better supervisor. Sarah guided me where I needed and always created a safe space for me to learn;first hand; from this opportunity which will undoubtedly stay with me as I venture out in my professional career. As they say, If you have a strong foundation, you can build anything.

What skills did you gain from this internship?

Of course I learnt various technical skills but as an introvert, I feel like this internship helped me be more extroverted in a professional setting, which is kind of what marketing is about anyway! The team works in cohesion, simple but effective because everyone gives the other the space they need while being wonderfully caring.

How would you describe Performance Space to a peer/friend/colleague?

I think I got really lucky with PSpace, especially as my first internship in Australia. They have set the bar really high. Be it in terms of teamwork, workplace environment, professionalism, business ambition and mostly as an art organisation. I have loved every minute of my internship here and I’m so grateful things worked out the way they did.

Any advice to someone thinking of applying for the program?

Show up as much as you can. Try doing multiple things at the same time if you think you are capable because it ends up being so much fun. And above all, if you love art and culture and everything synonymous to it, apply now.
