2026 Stephen Cummins Residents, Sisters of VĀ, are in their second week at PACT Centre for Emerging Artists developing ‘Te Ao Moemoeaa’ (The world of dreaming).
A series of durational ceremonial actiVAtions which observe concepts surrounding dreaming, spiritual interaction, ancestral veneration and the ‘VA body, the work explores the interrelationships between the pacific waters of Samoa, Aotearoa and Eora Nation. ‘Te Ao Moemoeaa’ looks to re-imagine new ‘performance spaces’ that supersede imperial and colonial narratives of the performing or performative body.
Sisters of VĀ have also curated a playlist based on the themes explored in the work. Katharine and Pounamu describe the playlist as:
“a mix of sounds that are giving indigenous, diaspora, ballroom, fafalina dj’s we love and know. You’ll find themes of resistance, joy, affirmation, ancestral frequencies, and of course moments to shake ass”.
